the urban scape

Share your ideas on how the Indian street, its pavements, trees, and its life can be enriched to make the street a transformed lively space. From the most basic aspects that make a street to the most complex metaphorical meanings - the mystical streets of Venice and Benares. The winding street markets of Isfahan, the clinical streets of Hongkong, each has its unique character !

exploring the street as an internal space - may chnage the way we look at them - also the car needs to be given its separation from the pedestrian - though in a new way - not like what corbusier proposed - nisha

we need to look at the concept of indian urbanity afresh - jaipur was a dramatic experiment - in its own times - today our architects and planners seem to be mindlessly imitating western norms - could there be a forum created for some serious debates on the issue - Am not subscribing to blind imitation of the past - thats probably as inappropriate too - parthiv

On a more basic approach - can we look at indian urban spaces - in a manner that a child can safely go to school - or a pedestrian can walk in peace and enjoy experiences of the shop front, cleanliness and surfaces that are made safe - ashwin

There are so many different agencies that make a street - how are they to be harmonised in some way - also in ancient towns the street was an extension of the house - today that is severed - How does that impact our sense of domain and feeling pride for the street - like in venice or Jaipur - Ranjani Chari

a street prob should be such that it creates a constant nagging question in head..is it planned or not.all real indian streets reflect this consistently.the aggloromeration of elements on the streets which at first sight might appear a mindless chaos is ultimately a surreal beautiful experience. The Ahmedabad old city, the Vijayanagar street..these are the images my mind creates and recreates everytime i think of an urban indian street.-Sumedha
