As students we have always cherished visits to historic buildings or a stroll through the space created by our favorite architect..The experience counts, but there is loads to learn through them too.loads of secrets can be unveiled, and so much can be uncoded.
Sketch books are as essential for students of architectue..Readings and observations of buildings like plans, elements, measurements, relationships when recorded time to time through the medium of hand sketching can definitely open up the doors of exploration in architecture.Quick small sketches are hardly time consuming and can remain as life long memory, the process this way transforms into a more engaging interaction with the buildings .
measuring, drawing up the plans, sketching different aspects, detailed documentation of typologies and finally an architectural analysis..comes next.
can be very useful in learning the fundamental concepts.
following are two examples..one traditional chettinad house and another of gandhi ashram

spaces-courtyards , thinaai , rooms-measurements,arrangement,hierarchy,purpose (for eg thinnai are interaction with street-public,outward..courtyard-bringing outside inside etc )
